B. Riley Financial has appointed Martin Bernstein as the head of private investments of its investment division, B. Riley Principal Investments.

In this newly created position, Bernstein will oversee sourcing, underwriting, and managing investments with private firms. He will also lead distribution to the company’s syndication partners.

Bernstein, who is joining the company from Anchorage Capital Group, has experience in originating, underwriting, and investing in public and private equities.

He also has experience in handling credit, bank debt, distressed debt, and restructuring situations in transportation, automotive, aerospace, manufacturing, power, and infrastructure among other sectors.

Prior to Anchorage, Bernstein worked as an analyst at San Francisco-based investment firm Bocage Capital and was part of the investment team for the endowment at Howard Hughes Medical Institute.

As head of private investments, Bernstein will work closely with B. Riley Financial chief investment officer Dan Shribman as part of the B. Riley Principal Investments team.
