AXA Investment Managers has named Ian Smith and Paul Birchenough as the new co-managers of the AXA Framlington Emerging Markets fund.

The duo will be part of the firm’s core emerging markets portfolio management team, working alongside, emerging markets team head Julian Thompson.

AXA Framlington global head Mark Beveridge said: "We believe in recognising and rewarding talent coming through the ranks. We already adopt a team approach to portfolio management and Paul and Ian have been part of our EM team since 2011 and 2012 respectively. They both have extensive experience in emerging markets and we are confident that they will continue to successfully manage the fund."

The fund was previously managed by Thompson, who will continue to run the fund’s offshore version known as AXA WF Framlington Emerging Markets as well as will focus on managing segregated emerging market mandates.

Additionally, the firm has also appointed Alex Khosla in the team as an emerging markets equities analyst.

Khosla, who most recently served at UBS Investment Bank, will be tasked with covering the energy, beverages and tobacco sectors and monitoring macroeconomic issues in India, Chile, Peru and Colombia.
