AXA Investment Managers (AXA IM) has hired Masanori Tanabe as new external director and chairman in Japan in a move to grow and develop its presence in the country.

Tanabe has worked as director and chairman of AXA Life Japan and Axa General Insurance Japan since 2015.

Tanabe joined AXA IM from Bank of Japan (BoJ), where he has held executive roles for 30 years from 1975 to 2005, most notably in policy planning and market operations.

Prior to this, Tanabe also served as the governor of the Deposit Insurance Corporation of Japan. He has also held non-executive directorships at the Enterprise Turnaround Initiative Corporation of Japan.
