Appleby has received a license from China’s Ministry of Justice to provide offshore legal services in the country from its Shanghai base.
The firm has appointed partner Malcolm Moller to head its new legal offering in China.

In addition, Moller will be assisted by associate Kate Li in Shanghai and fiduciary head of business development in China, Scott Reid alongside the firm’s Hong Kong team with over 15 partners and fee-earners.
Through this license, Appleby is seeking to expand its China practice with a focus on areas such as corporate, commercial, finance, litigation and insolvency.
Appleby has a base in Shanghai since 2012 that currently provides fiduciary and administrative services prior to receiving the legal practice licence.
The new legal services will enhance the firm’s ability to offer integrated services between Jersey and the Chinese and Asian markets.
