Djoko Sutanto, founder and CEO of Sumber Alfaria Trijaya Tbk, an Indonesian food product retailer, has sold 71.7 million shares, representing a 1.9% stake in the company. The shares were sold on 27 June 2013 at an approximate price of IDR5,997.21 (US$0.605) per share, for gross proceeds of IDR430,000 million ($43.4m).

Djoko Sutanto is the president commissioner of Sumber Alfaria Trijaya Tbk, an Indonesian retailer of consumer goods. Its franchise Alfamart, is currently one of the Indonesia leading retailers, serving more than 2.5 million customers daily

The latest share sale comes after a series of major liquidity events dating back to December 2011. Sutanto sold 147.75 million and 343.18 million shares in Sumber Alfaria Trijaya Tbk in 2012 and 2011 respectively, with total gross proceedings of approximately $219m. These divestments made him reduce his stake in the company to 55.92%.

Sutanto established Alfamart Sahabat Indonesia, a philanthropic arm of Alfamart, which donates to educational institutions, arts and culture organizations, orphanages and disaster reliefs.

Djoko Susanto is the president commissioner of Sumber Alfaria Trijaya Tbk, an Indonesian retailer of consumer goods. He was born in 1950. Susanto started his career by managing the family store, Sumber Bahagia, located in the traditional market of Jakarta, Indonesia. In 1999, with his billionaire business partner Putera Sampoerna, opened the first Alfa Minimart, which produced high revenues. In 2002, Alfa Mimimart was renamed as Alfamart, and the parent company, Sumber Alfaria Trijaya Tbk, was established. Within two years of inception, Alfamart opened over 800 stores throughout Indonesia. Susanto is married and has five children, of which two chair the company’s board.
