Morgan Stanley Australia CEO Steve Harker has stepped down from his role after 18 years in the top job.

Harker joined Morgan Stanley in 1998 after running Barclays Bank investment banking arm BZW’s operations in the UK.

During his tenure, he also managed the growth of Australian operation, which grew to nearly 600 employees.

He will stay with Morgan Stanley in a part-time position as vice-chairman.

Harker will be replaced by Richard Wagner, who joined the firm in 2005.
