US asset manager BlackRock has hired Geir Espeskog as new Asia Pacific head of distribution for its iShares unit, effective 1 January 2015.

Based in Hong Kong, Espeskog will report to Susan Chan, head of iShares Asia Pacific.

In his new role, Espeskog will be responsible for managing operations of the company’s iShares exchange-traded funds unit in Asia Pacific and across all channels, including retail, institutional and asset management. He previously served as head of iShares for the Nordics.

Additionally, BlackRock has also named Jason Miller as head of iShares Japan, Jonathan Howie as head of iShares Australia and Sean Cunningham as head of iShares Capital Markets for Asia Pacific. All of the three new hires will take effect on 1 January 2015.

In his new role, Miller will be replacing Junichi Kamitsubo and will be responsible for developing iShares Japan platform. He will report to Masato Degawa, president of BlackRock Japan alongside Susan Chan.

Miller was most recently head of Broker Dealer Relationship Management within the Americas iShares Capital Markets team based in New York.

Previously, Howie served as head of ETF Product and Strategy for iShares, while Cunningham joins from London where he was head of broker dealer execution services EMEA at iShares.

Based in Hong Kong, Cunningham will also report to Susan Chan.

Chan said: "These moves from the US and Emea are designed to deepen iShares knowledge from those markets to meet growing demand and usage of ETFs in Asia Pacific."
