Morgan Stanley’s CFO Ruth Porat has resigned from her position to become technology giant Google’s new finance chief.

Jonathan Pruzan, co-head of Morgan Stanley’s global financial institutions group in investment banking, will take over Porat’s role, the bank confirmed.

Porat spent past five years in Morgan Stanley as finance chief besides serving the company as co-head of investment-banking to technology companies in her earlier stint.

Morgan Stanley chairman and CEO James Gorman said: "After a 28-year career at Morgan Stanley, Ruth Porat has decided to leave the firm to take on a new role in Silicon Valley and return to her California roots."

At Google, Porat will succeed Patrick Pichette, announced his retirement plans on March 10 .

Google said Porat will start her new role on May 26.
