Citigroup has hired Catherine Cai as its new managing director, chairman, and head of China investment banking.
Cai, who has over 20 years of China investment banking experience, began her career with Smith Barney in New York in 1993.

In the new role, she will succeed Roger Zhu who retired in January and will report to Citi’s Asia-Pacific head of corporate and investment banking, Mark Slaughter.
Slaughter said, "She has excellent client relationships around the region and has been involved on several landmark and groundbreaking transactions from China during her career."
She most recently served as chairman of China investment banking at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, where she served for ten years.
