Garner who will take on his new role on 1 June 2012 is replacing Russell Collins who will retire from Deloitte at the end of May 2012.

Currently, Garner is the head of the UK bank and deputy chief executive at HSBC bank responsible for the firm’s retail and commercial banking business in the UK.

Prior to his current role, Garner was head of UK personal financial services at the firm and had started his career with Procter and Gamble for nine years and later worked at Dixon’s Group, before joining HSBC in 2004.

He was also a non-executive director of the Financial Ombudsman Service between February 2008 and 2010.

At FSA, he Garner will work with Helena Morrissey, CEO of Newton Investment Management and Guy Matthews, chief executive of Sarasin Investment funds, among others.

Financial Services Practitioner panel is independent from the FSA and was established under the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 to represent the interests of practitioners.
