What Matters Investment Index of L&G Investments, which aims to investigate the views of the IFA community on a yearly basis by tracking sentiment and behavior changes has revealed that more advisers are recommending passive investments now than in 2011.

"In anticipation of the retail distribution review, and from talking to advisers in the market, we believe passive investments will occupy an increasingly prominent position in the market and this research provides further evidence of this view," remarked Simon Ellis, managing director of L&G Investments.

Ellis also added that though a mixture of active and passive funds was generally most appropriate, individual risk appetite should be the guiding force when advisers were constructing portfolios for their clients.
