Schroders, which had GBP212 billion in assets under management at the end of December 2012, has also hired Alex Breese from Neptune Investment Management to manage the GBP642.3 million Schroder UK Equity and GBP181.2 million Schroder ISF UK Equity funds.

Both funds were previously co-managed by Ed Meier and Errol Francis, who are also joining Old Mutual in June 2013.

At Neptune, Breese was head of UK equities and manager of the GBP23.5 million Neptune UK Special Situations fund. He joined the firm in May 2005 as an investment analyst and was promoted to head of UK equities in August 2012.

Matthews and Breese will both report to Peter Harrison, global head of equities. Harrison, formerly the chief executive of boutique asset manager RWC Partners, took on the global role at Schroders in February 2013.
