D’Hooge’s appointment was stratigically in order to "boost" Vontobel’s operations in emerging markets debt. Currently head of emerging market debt in Vontobel’s Zurich office, D’Hooge has more than 20 years investment experience and was previously head of EMD at Dexia.

Commenting on the launch, D’Hooge said, "Hard-currency emerging market debt has excellent risk-return potential and could represent a great addition to a balanced portfolio, even alongside an allocation to local emerging debt."

The launch of this fund "further expands" Vantonbel’s operations in fixed income, which currently has US$10 billion in assets.

The fund will be actively managed and benchmarked against the JPMorgan EMBI Global Diversified index.
