Barclays has opened a new office in Maidstone, Kent as part of its strategy to bolster its presence in the Southeast.

Barclays said that the decision to base a dedicated Wealth and Investment Management team in Kings Hill reflects the area’s growing affluence.

A report by Barclays in 2011 found that there are 287,000 millionaires in London and the South East, and this figure is set to rise by 35% by 2020.

The new office will offer a range of private banking and wealth advisory services as well as corporate banking through a team led by Mark Moran.

Barclays said that six specialist sector corporate banking relationship directors will work alongside private bankers and wealth advisors to support businesses and clients in the region by offering a full range of banking, investment and wealth advisory solutions.

Robin Reynolds, regional director for Barclays’ wealth and investment management arm in Kent, said: "As our UK footprint continues to grow, we are delighted to open a new, local office which demonstrates our commitment to building our presence in the Southeast.
