St. James’s Place, a UK based wealth management group, is launching a Women’s Initiative to focus on the firm’s commitment to help women in business, in particular the benefits of wealth management as a career option for women.

The St James’s Place Academy, which is established in 2007, will provide professionals, with no previous experience in financial advice, the opportunity to become partners within the national advisory firm.

The Woman’s Initiative will be run by SJP’s flagship training operation, St James’s Place Academy, and is open to women from all career backgrounds.

The SJP Academy offers a two-year training programme, with applicants working with a mentor five months into the programme.The Academy will train high calibre candidates in financial advice, providing support for future Partners of St. James’s Place to start and build their own high quality wealth management practice.

The firm said currently 11% of advisers at SJP are female and that 20% of them are being trained in the academy are women.

Adrian Batchelor, Academy Director, said, "Financial advice and wealth management have always been dominated by men, but there is no justification for this. Being a Partner of St. James’s Place is challenging, but ideally suited to women because of its flexibility and self-determination.

Successful applicants to the Academy will undertake an intensive education, coaching and assessment programme providing them with the ability to offer a professional, expert and face to face wealth management service to their clients.

Upon completion of the programme successful trainees graduate from the Academy will enter into the St. James’s Place Partnership and will start running their own business.
