Brazilian asset management firm Victoire Brasil Investimentos (VBI) has partnered with emerging markets fund manager Aquico Wen to establish a specialist fund management company in Hong Kong.

The new firm, Victoire Asia Investment, will be a 50/50 joint venture between VBI and Wen, who was founder and chief investment officer of Legg Mason-affiliated company Esemplia Emerging Markets.

It will target high quality companies and focus higher growth developing markets such as China, India, ASEAN and frontier markets.

Paulo Del Priore, managing director of VBI, said: "Aquico’s outstanding knowledge and expertise in emerging markets will broaden and deepen our research capability and investment offering in Asian and global emerging market equities and will enhance our offer in a manner consistent with the values and investment methodologies for which Victoire Brasil Investimentos has become known."

Wen said: "I’m delighted to once again be working with the Victoire team in this exciting new venture not simply because they have established a significant and respected specialist asset management business but because we share common beliefs and values, based on mutual trust and respect."

Wen is a Taiwanese-born Brazilian citizen and was previously at Citi Group where he worked closely with partners of Victoire Brazil Investimentos team, this was before they left to set up the Brazilian boutique in 2004.
