The fund, which will follow a high conviction approach and focuses on family-owned businesses, will look for European companies which have strong growth potential over three-to-five years.

Additionally, the fund will invest in around 50 stocks and focus on continental Europe excluding the UK, which differs from his flagship OYSTER European Opportunities fund which can invest across the whole of Europe.

Benchmarked against the MSCI Europe ex-UK NR GBP index, the fund will allow Bendahan to focus on the longer-term stories leading to a relatively low portfolio turnover of around 50% to 60% per annum.

The fund is aimed at tapping UK institutional investor interest, while also being available to wider European investors. It has institutional and clean retail share classes in both sterling and euro.

Bendahan said: "This family-owned theme is something we have always believed in because these businesses normally have a more patrimonial outlook, which leads them to think about things on a long term basis.

"While the head of a publically-owned business is likely to be there for 4 and a half years, that leads them to act short-term. However, the average tenure in a family-owned business is 14-15 years, which creates longevity," he added.

Ian Penrose, distribution director for the UK, said: "The launch of this exciting new fund adds further weight to our ambition to raise Syz & Co.’s profile in the UK investor community and underlines our commitment to deliver solutions tailored to UK investors’ needs."
