Swiss private bank Julius Baer has appointed Jean-Claude Mariethod and a team of ten specialists for its Berne location.

Mariethod will assume the role of head of the bank’s Berne branch on 1 January 2017, replacing Patrick Heritier who will assume a senior management role within the bank.

In addition, Mariethod will also become the market head of Swiss Locations- that covers the smaller Swiss locations- on 1 April 2017.

Mariethod and the newly-appointed team most recently served at Valiant Bank. Mariethod held various executive positions at Valiant for the last seven years, including deputy CEO and member of the executive board of Valiant private bank. He was appointed as the head of private banking and investment at Valiant Bank in 2012, and head of wealth advisory clients in 2015.

The bank has also appointed Yassine Ben Hamida as its new market head of Geneva, replacing Gabriele Odone who will now take over a senior management position within the bank.

Hamida will assume the new role on 1 August 2016, and will be responsible for further advancing the bank’s business in French-speaking Switzerland.

For the past seven years, Hamida served at Credit Suisse and was most recently the bank’s head coverage emerging markets for financial institutions & transaction banking.

Odone served at Julius Baer since 2010, holding several executive roles in the region such as market head Geneva, head special clients and market head Vaud-Valais.

"Thanks to Yassine Ben Hamida’s network and his local roots, we will be optimally positioned in Geneva to take full advantage of the growth potential in the French-speaking part of Switzerland in the coming years," Fruithof stated.

Moreover, Julius Baer has also appointed Gieri Giger as its new head of Lucerne with immediate effect.

Giger will assume the new role, in addition to his role as head of the bank’s Zug branch that he has been serving for the past nine years.

"I am convinced that by strengthening our personnel we have placed ourselves in the best position for long-term and sustainable growth in our important home market of Switzerland," Fruithof added.
