Gunjan Samtani, Goldman Sachs’ co-chairman in India and head of the firm’s India global centre, is set to retire at the end of this year. 

He will remain in the co-chairman role until then.

In a memo shared by Goldman Sachs with Private Banker International, the bank appointed Ken Castelino and Balaji Sivasubramanian have been selected to assume the co-head positions. 

During his time at the firm, Samtani held a number of senior posts, including chief operating officer of Engineering, global co-head of risk engineering, and co-chief operating officer of Goldman Sachs Services in India. 

He is also chair of the India Regional Risk Committee and the Executive Council for Bengaluru and Hyderabad.  

Samtani joined Goldman Sachs as a vice president in 2010, became managing director in 2012, and was made partner in 2020. 

“We are grateful to Gunjan for his relentless focus on enhancing our capabilities locally and contributing to the firm’s execution priorities, while cultivating top talent and leading our teams through periods of significant change – including the COVID-19 pandemic'” the bank said in the memo obtained by GlobalData’s B2B publishing site Private Banker International. 

Castelino and Sivasubramanian will continue reporting in their divisional roles to Dmitri Potishko and to Marco Argenti and Bill Johnson, respectively. 

“As co-heads, Ken and Balaji will oversee all of our activities in Bengaluru and Hyderabad, partnering with both global and local leaders – including the Bengaluru and Hyderabad Executive Council – to advance our priorities,” the memo said. 

The bank said both executives will work with Samtani in the coming months to support the handover. 

Castelino is head of Global Banking & Markets – Public in India and co-head of Global Equities Electronic Trading Strats and Engineering.  

His earlier roles included heading Fixed Income, Currencies and Commodities Systematic Market Making and serving as global head of FICC Desk Strats. 

He joined Goldman Sachs as an associate in 2006, was appointed managing director in 2011, and became partner in 2016. 

Sivasubramanian is head of Engineering in India and global head of Enterprise Partnerships Engineering within Platform Solutions.  

Earlier, he was co-head of Core Engineering for India and was involved in building the Data Lake Platform. Before that, he spent 14 years in Equities Trading Technology. 

He joined Goldman Sachs as an analyst in 2000, was named technology fellow in 2012, became managing director in 2015, and was made partner in 2022.
