BBVA Compass has hired Maria Holmes as its new head of asset management and trust.

Based in Houston, Holmes will join BBVA Compass’ global wealth unit and will oversee the teams responsible for trading activities and investment operations, risk management and product development.

In addition, Holmes will also lead the registered investment adviser program for BBVA Securities.

She will also take over an investment platform that enables clients to build, protect and share wealth via dedicated portfolio management, tax efficient trading, and an in-house fixed income team and trust system.

Holmes joined BBVA Compass from Santander, where she served as national sales director for its US securities business. Prior to this, he held leadership roles at Citi and Fifth Third Bank, where she led wealth management teams and programs.

BBVA Securities head Bruce Hagemann said Holmes is likely to expand the bank’s registered investment adviser program forward.
